Hi everyone!

Welcome to the CARBON GREY RPG and OMNIBUS campaign!

We are super excited to finally pull the curtain back on this campaign that we have been working on for such a long time... Hoang Nguyen's amazing comic series is so ripe with adventure possibilities and the universe has so many vibrant environments with excellent corners to hide supernatural mysteries, it was a goal of ours for years to play inside that world upon a tabletop. And soon you can, too!

This isn't our first Kickstarter campaign, but it is our first in the tabletop gaming category, and the first under this new account, Magnetic Press Play. Our previous 12 campaigns have all been in the Comics & Graphic Novels category under our development ID Neurobellum Productions, and they have all been successful and selected as "Projects We Love" by Kickstarter. So we're very experienced at running and fulfilling campaigns. And now we're ready to level up into gaming!

The Magnetic Press Play team is separate from our Graphic Novel production team, and they all have extensive, award-winning experience in the tabletop RPG industry. CARBON GREY is being led by ENnie and UKGE Award-winning writer Andrew E.C. Gaska, who has collected laurels for his work on the recent smash-hit ALIEN RPG from Free League and the TERMINATOR RPG from Nightfall Games.  With an incredibly talented team of experienced and award-winning writers, designers, artists, and sculptors, CARBON GREY is proving to be an exciting and eye-popping freshman project for the new label! (And we've got several more exciting projects also in the works... but more on those later...)

We are working with noted game manufacturer Starry Games for all printing and production, and they have been hard at work prototyping and mold-making for months. We expect to have some pix of the physical items to share in an update very soon!

This being our first Kickstarter in the gaming category, we are admittedly learning a lot about the different expectations from tabletop backers... it's one thing to study flight patterns from the ground, it's another thing entirely to get behind the stick and take off! For example:

Quickstart Guide:

We have a Quickstart Guide PDF in final proofing right now and it will be available to download (for FREE!) this weekend! (I hesitate to say specifically Friday or Saturday, but we're pushing for it to be the headline of our Friday update...)

We know a lot of you may be curious about the sort of roles and rules and scenarios we're bringing to the table, or maybe you're not familiar with RPGs or the D6 System and want to know what that's all about. The Quickstart Guide should help you out!

Don't be shy:

We have been so heads-down getting the awesome project together that we admittedly hadn't spent nearly enough time talking it up on social media or in gamer forums until now... Many of us are artists and designers first, and that means self-promoters second (or third, or last...)  We started reaching out to some press outlets two weeks ago and have gotten some nice coverage, but now that the cat is out of the bag, we will be talking about it as much as possible everywhere we can!

Careful not to bite off more than you can chew...:

We could have started small with our first game. Some might say that would have been wise. Fewer minis (or even no minis at all, or save the minis for stretch goals), keep the graphic novel Omnibus for a separate campaign in the comic category, or maybe save some features for an expansion campaign next year...

Sure, those are all reasonable and safe suggestions. But once we got started, we just kept wanting to make it just a little better. And as the team grew, cooler features and pieces become possible. The minis became undeniably cool. The number of fun new gameplay tweaks and scenarios and character archetypes and monsters just kept haunting us. So we committed to all of it, as you can see here. And it is all coming together nicely, right on schedule. Which leads to the next lesson --

Don't overpromise:

Everything presented here is going into mass production in the next 2-3 weeks. While the artwork on this page may be 3D mockups, they represent actual files currently being proofed and prototyped at the manufacturer.  The biggest unpredictable factor is shipping delays -- anyone who has followed the ongoing global freight fiasco plaguing world trade these days knows about it. There's nothing we can do but anticipate a long shipping period and set backer expectations accordingly. We believe we could (should) have everything in our warehouse for Quartermaster Logistics in December. But we also know that a lot can happen to slow things down along the way. That's why we're saying shipping will begin in late January.

You may be thinking "Wow, that's fast! Most tabletop games promise to deliver 12-14 months later!" And that thought may be followed up by "...these guys must not know what they're doing." But I assure you, we do, and we've been working very closely with Starry Games to be sure that our dates are realistic and reasonable. If it turns out that global shipping gets even worse, we'll keep you posted, but at this point, we can't imagine that becoming the case.

---

We have a lot of cool features and universe spotlights planned for (near-)daily updates throughout the campaign, so hopefully you're all strapped in and ready for a fun ride! There are a lot of exciting things to reveal and announce in the coming weeks, and we are so grateful you all chose to join us! Please spread the word to all of your friends and post about it on all of your social networks -- tag us at @magneticpressplay on FB/IG or @magpressplay on Twitter, or use the hashtag #carbongreyrpg. We're planning some fun engagement activities and rewards for helping us get the word out -- stay tuned for more information on that soon!

Thank you!
